After just four weeks of an extremely focused community effort, the North East Community Foundation on July 23rd presented a check for $59,000 to 4 N.I.N.E. Thrift Store to help the organization continue its good works following the store's devastating fire on June 25th.

Board Chairman Billy Lewis cited the incredible outpouring of support from the North East Community. He specifically credited GE/Transportation for its initial gift of $20,000 to the Foundation, which partnered with the GE gift to turn that $20,000 into a matching gift program for contributions. In addition, Mr. Lewis applauded Mercyhurst/North East for it\'s donation of $13,000; the North East Moose Family Center #2568 for $5,000; and the hundreds of local businesses and individuals who came together to insure that 4 N.I.N.E Place could continue its operations and funding of special programs like child care scholarships and GED classes. Finally, the GE Federal Credit Union stepped in and volunteered to accept any and all donations for the fund, no matter how large or small.

The North East Community Foundation proudly salutes everyone who worked on this initiative and reminds us all that there\'s nothing we can't accomplish when many come together for the good of the community.
